Women’s Campaign Fund Endorses Gorbea For Secretary of State

Providence – The Women’s Campaign Fund has announced their unanimous endorsement of Nellie Gorbea, in her bid to become Rhode Island’s next Secretary of State. The Women’s Campaign Fund is a national, non-partisan organization dedicated to increasing the number of women in elected office who support reproductive health choices for all.

“Women’s Campaign Fund is proud to endorse Nellie Gorbea in her race to be Rhode Island’s next Secretary of State,” said Clare Bresnahan, Political & Programs Director for WCF. “With her experience as former Deputy Secretary of State, and her passion for improving voter access and participation, Nellie is the most qualified candidate in the race. Also, a Latina leader, Nellie will bring a unique perspective to the Secretary’s office to ensure that women and minorities across Rhode Island are represented.,” continued Bresnahan.

Gorbea’s campaign has increasingly earned national attention.  This is the second national endorsement that Gorbea has received. Gorbea has also been endorsed by EMILY’s List. “I am honored to have received the endorsement of the Women’s Campaign Fund. It is wonderful to be in the company of so many national women leaders that are seeking to change our states and our nation,” said Gorbea.

Gorbea has held leadership positions in both the public and private sector in Rhode Island for the past 20 years. Gorbea’s priorities as Secretary of State include: assuring elections are fast, fair and accurate; shining a light on how government works so voters can see who is influencing Rhode Island government; and making sure that businesses have the information they need to start and thrive.

If elected, Gorbea would be the first Hispanic woman elected to statewide office in New England.
