Providence – Tonight, in front of a classroom of English as a Second Language (ESL) students, Senator Juan Pichardo announced his support for Nellie Gorbea, Democratic candidate for Secretary of State. The announcement took place at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
“Nellie and I have been working hard for many years on issues that matter to working families here in our State, including the championing of affordable housing and encouraging greater participation in the political process. I am proud to support her candidacy for Secretary of State. She will bring vision, a tremendous work ethic and a wealth of experience to this Office." Pichardo stated.
With decades of experience in both the private sector and in government, Gorbea is running to make government work for all Rhode Islanders. Gorbea will make certain that businesses have easy access to the information they need to grow in Rhode Island’s economy, that government is transparent, and that all eligible voters can and do vote.
“It’s great to have the support of a fellow community leader who I have worked with extensively over the past twenty years to make Rhode Island a better place.” said Gorbea. “Senator Pichardo’s commitment to service extends far beyond his district of South Providence. We want to make government work for all Rhode Islander’s and that is why I am honored to have the Senator’s endorsement.”
Gorbea previously served as Deputy Secretary of State from 2002-2006. Both Gorbea and Senator Pichardo were instrumental in the founding of the Rhode Island Latino Political Action Committee (RILPAC). Since the inception of RILPAC, both have been fixtures in the community focusing on civic engagement.
