Providence – The Rhode Island AFL-CIO unanimously voted on September 12th to endorse Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, Nellie Gorbea. If elected Gorbea will become the first Latino to be elected to statewide office in New England.
“Nellie’s forward thinking approach to solving tough problems is the type of leadership that we need in Rhode Island,” said Rhode Island AFL-CIO President George Nee. “Nellie understands the challenges facing Rhode Island’s working families and is committed to making sure that our government is working for them and looking out for them.”
“One of my strongest beliefs is that that democracy works best when people actively participate,” said Gorbea. “We can accomplish amazing things when we all come together for the good of all. The Rhode Island AFL-CIO has a long and successful history of bringing people together to support good wages, workers safety and training and collective bargaining that help move Rhode Island forward. I am proud of the work that the Rhode Island AFL-CIO has done and greatly appreciate their endorsement.”
