Providence – The Foster Democratic Town Committee voted unanimously last night to endorse Democrat Nellie Gorbea in her candidacy for Secretary of State.
“Nellie Gorbea is a proven leader and her resume and credentials are what impressed the committee. She was the first candidate for statewide office to make her personal income taxes public. Her commitment to transparency in both her personal and professional life is exactly what Rhode Island needs from its elected officials,” said Foster Democratic Town Committee Chairman John Bevilaqua. “Nellie has demonstrated the capacity to tackle projects from that office in the past and I have no doubt that she will be able to implement her recent proposal for lobbying reform,” Bevilaqua continued.
Gorbea was formerly Deputy Secretary of State from 2002-2006 and most recently Executive Director of Housingworks RI. If elected, Gorbea would be the first Hispanic woman to hold statewide elected office in Rhode Island.
“I am honored to have the support of the Foster Democratic Town Committee,” stated Gorbea. “I look forward to working with them on ensuring that government is transparent and accountable to the citizens of the Ocean State.”
