Providence – The Central Falls Democratic Committee has voted unanimously to endorse Democrat Secretary of State candidate Nellie Gorbea.
“Nellie Gorbea has been in the community promoting civic engagement and civic literacy for more than 20 years,” said Central Falls Democratic Committee Chairwoman Jackie Parra. “We know Ms. Gorbea will ensure that elections are fair, fast and accurate. Nellie Gorbea is clearly the most qualified candidate in this race. Her proven track record of accomplishment and impressive resume were key factors in our selecting Nellie Gorbea as our candidate for Secretary of State,” said Parra.
Gorbea, who was Deputy Secretary of State from 2002-2006, started promoting civic leadership as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs in the early 1990s. She has also organized civic literacy teach-ins, has written and spoken about government in Rhode Island in English and Spanish, and has seen RI elections up close as a poll worker. Gorbea is the founder of the Rhode Island Latino Civic Fund.
Central Falls becomes the sixth Democratic committee to endorse Gorbea’s candidacy, joining: East Greenwich, Barrington, Coventry, Tiverton and Foster.
“The support of the Central Falls Democratic Committee means a great deal to me. It is an energized electorate and I am proud to have The Comeback City supporting my candidacy,” stated Gorbea.
